National Specialised Museums

Finland has 16 national specialised museums, the tasks of which include promoting and steering museum operations in their specialist fields.

National specialised museums serve as national experts in their respective areas of operation. They are responsible for the notable collections in their respective fields, in addition to which they are tasked with coordinating collections and responsibilities related to acquisitions and documentation in their fields. National specialised museums provide varied, nationwide services and engage in active cooperation with various other parties in their respective fields.

The Finnish Heritage Agency holds periodic negotiations with national specialised museums on the focus areas and objectives of national operations.
