Purpose of the Project
The BEFAIR project aims to improve the management and accessibility of archaeological finds made by the public in Estonia and Finland by streamlining heritage workflows, enhancing public services, and applying FAIR data principles through cross‑border cooperation.
Project Objectives and Excpected Results
The project will deliver a jointly developed Strategic Action Plan that provides concrete measures for improving public services related to metal detecting finds management in Estonia and Finland. Through shared analysis, workshops, and pilot improvements, the project will streamline workflows, reduce processing times, and align data practices according to FAIR principles.
As a result, heritage authorities will be better equipped to manage the growing volume of metal detecting finds in a faster, more transparent, and user‑oriented manner. The cross‑border cooperation will strengthen institutional collaboration, enable the transfer of best practices between countries, and ensure that improvements are sustainable beyond the project lifetime.
Ultimately, BEFAIR will enhance the protection, accessibility, and societal value of archaeological finds while creating a transferable model for other regions facing similar challenges.
