The Finnish Heritage Agency Opens Grant Call for Intangible Cultural Heritage Projects
The grant is primarily intended for cooperation and development projects in the field of intangible cultural heritage. Applications must be submitted through the Finnish Government’s Haeavustuksia.fi grants service. The application period closes on 8 October 2026 at 23:59.
The aim of the grant is to strengthen the implementation and visibility of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and to increase opportunities for communities to participate in the identification, safeguarding and transmission of intangible cultural heritage. The Convention emphasizes the central role of communities, the safeguarding and transmission of living heritage, and the diversity of cultural heritage.
Finland ratified the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013. The Finnish Heritage Agency is responsible for the implementation of the Convention in Finland.
The Finnish Heritage Agency has supported projects related to intangible cultural heritage through government grants since 2018. In previous years, nearly seventy grants have been awarded to support, among other things, educational projects focusing on living heritage, culturally diverse initiatives, and Finnish elements inscribed on UNESCO’s Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Intangible cultural heritage refers to traditions and practices that are passed down from generation to generation. It may include festive traditions, craftsmanship, performing arts, storytelling, or knowledge and practices concerning nature.
Eligible applicants include associations, municipalities, foundations and companies. Applications must be submitted through the Haeavustuksia.fi online service. Applications may be completed in Finnish, Swedish or English. Read more from our website.
